Quick Note : Reading While Knitting

Love them both. I found reading while knitting is very relaxing and fruitful. I’ve read a lot while making all those baby gifts! Reading while crochetting is more tricky, but I still do that. Even tried to knit while in the cinema and crochetting while watching a music concert last weekend! Don’t take me wrong, the movie and the concert was very fine, not boring at all. It’s just my hands need distraction… And in reverse, while crafting I need to distract my brain, so I read a book. An e-book on propped Ipad is more convenient than a physical book, though πŸ˜€

Another Batch of Gifts

imageimage image imageThese areΒ some of my latest crochetted/knitted baby gifts. As I posted before, 6 of my colleagues got married one after another, and they have babies, also one after another. The first gave birth to a twin, it’s gonna be 7 babies in a row! I intend to give the newborns each a set of shoes and hat. Almost done all, now preparing dress/jacket for their first birthday. And here’s the newborn sets :

  • the orange-yellow is my first sets, already given to the twin girls. Their mom said, the set are nice compliment to her twin. The yellow set went to a more girly big sister, and the orange set went to more active little sister. A great start!
  • the blue-pink-purple set originally intended for a boy. I got this two-tone coloured rayon, cool and nice but very small yarn. I double it with another yarn, a bit wooly, warm and a bit coarse but slightly bigger. Too bad I only got light purple and light pink, so the outcome is girly. I made the hat first, simple enough knitting, but still not satisfied with the pompom. The shoes are good crochet pattern, from Bernat Baby. Ran out of the purple yarn there, so each of them got pink top. Not visible though, they change colours smoothly because of the doubling with the rayon. So, this set will go to the 4th baby, a girl πŸ™‚
  • the purple-pink hat are my favorite so far. Learned so much from this knitting pattern, about provisional cast-on, about attaching i-cord into the brim… Really love the outcome! The wide stripe of pink in the middle of dark purple wasn’t quite intended, actually I ran out of yarns πŸ™‚ The shoes also a very simple yet cute pattern, called wrap-over shoes. Just make a T form with equal feet in width and length, knitting or crochetting would be both fine. I also learned to make some buttons here. This set will go to the 3rd baby girl.
  • the purple hat and the light blue shoes are the only set that don’t match each other πŸ™‚ they are for the 6th baby, a boy who’s coming this December. So plenty of time to change the pairing later. They’ll do for now. The shoes are another wrap-over, the hat is simple knitting, with an umbilical cord on top. They’re cute!

Anyway, I ‘ve done another set for the 5th baby girl, but being plain cream-coloured, the hat still needs some embellishment, so haven’t photoed it yet. Gonna be another cute set, I tell you πŸ™‚ still need another set for the 7th baby, a boy who’s coming next May (on the same month, the twin will be a year old! My, the dresses…). Haven’t decided the pattern yet.

Ah yes, I haven’t learned about inserting pics and links, sorry about the uncomfortable display πŸ™‚

P.S Today bought myself a set of three cable needles of different size. Soon will learn how to knit cables for those little dresses! πŸ™‚
